There's a couple of ways to get through to the authorisation controls in the 11.0.x versions.
The control is in the Store menu, but first (if you're using iTunes versions 11.0.x) you might need to bring up the menu bar to see the Store menu.
If you're using 11.0.x, click on the wee boxy icon up in the top-left corner of your iTunes to see the "Show Menu Bar" control, as per the following screenshot:
Then you'll find the control in the Store menu:
Altrenatively, if you don't want to bring up the menu bar, it's still possible to get into the authorise controls via nested menus accessible from the wee boxy icon. Here's a screenshot of where to find them:
thanx that helped
Thank you so much b noir, that has really helped i've been going out of my mind trying to do it!! 🙂
b noir --- Your instructions were an instant fix of my problem - 'how to authorize my computer'. I am running Windows 8, and the instructions on the Apple tech pages do not address Windows 8. And in fact they don't even remotely address the instructions that you gave here -- which worked. My eternal questions is, why can't Apple give the same kind of 'instant solution' tech support like you just did? Many thanks!
Hi
Wow--thank you! I reached out to iTunes support who did NOT help me. Apparently they think clicking that icon to make the menu bar open is obvious.
That wee boxy icon is the way. Thank you, as I was not having much luck clicking on the Store icon.
Thank god for you!! Apple's instructions were NO help at all! >.<
Thank you so much!
Wow. Thank you. The menu options need to be open by default when you download new itunes on a new computer, then allow user to hide it.
I do not have that square box thing
only just got new computer and need idiots guide to authorise computer
thanks
Very useful information. I couldn't find this anywhere obvious on Apple. Authorisation problem fixed in seconds. Many thanks. 🙂
That did it thank you!
Thank You! You made it so easy. I've wasted an hour of my time with Apple posing as communicators. Thank you again! It took me less than 20 seconds! Happy New Year.

I could not get the "preferences" to open for the iTunes store... This is how I solved the problem...
1. I attached my iPhone for downloading/syncing...
2. I clicked on the little phone icon on my menu bar
3. I right-clicked on the Settings which brought a pop-up menu and I clicked Transfer previous purchases
4. This prompted a statement from the iTunes store saying once again my computer was not authorized... but this time it didn't give me the statement that says go to iTunes to fix - it said do you want to authorize this computer .... YEAH!!! FINALLY
I truly hope this helps someone as it was extremely frustrating to try and resolve this 🙂
