This is the Free Plugin & Loops Thread from GB2. Since many people are now using GB3 I thought perhaps it would get more viewing here.

From now on I'll just keep adding to this thread when I come upon new stuff here in GB3.

Analog Factory

Analog Factory brings you 2000 legendary synthesizer sounds that have shaped modern music production. From classic phat lead lines to crystalline digital pads, this virtual instrument provides the contemporary musician with a broad, versatile and instantly striking sonic palette.

http://www.arturia.com/en/analogfac/analogfac.php

Just downloaded it here (5:30 AM) and played it for a while interesting analog sound from classic roots. Specs say it needs 1.5G hertz Proc but all I have is a 1 G and things seemed although I havent tried recording yet.

Lets you check off your favorites presets which is nice. Usually I have to make a folder in the software folder and then add the presets I like via "Save Instruments".

GarageRemote
control GarageBand from any MIDI controller

GarageRemote allows the control of GarageBand's transport functions from any MIDI controller that has programmable buttons.

I just use the 49e which doesnt have many external functions so I can't really use this but it might be helpful to someone with a keyboard that does

XO Wave. Its a freeware editing application. You can update to the Pro version if you want. I played around with the application for a while but I'm not really interested in anything other than GB. You might like it if your interested in another editing/mastering program. I'm not.

Below is a description from the website

http://www.xowave.com/

XO Wave is a digital audio software package complete with everything you need to get music from instruments to CD. XO Wave lets you record, edit, sync to video, mix and burn -- all in one package. With support for Mac OS X and Linux, you'll be recording, burning and podcasting in no time!

Red Book CD Burning

CD Burning is easy: just import audio, mark your tracks, and burn your red book compliant master, along with CD Text, ISRC and MCN/UPC info. Not only that, but any session can be burned to CD in just a few clicks -- great for checking out mixes in the car!

RAPTURE. Its a nice synth! You can download a demo AU for GB. Once you find the preset selections you'll see a great many presets to play with. Only problem with the demo is it fades in and out of silence a little too quickly.

If you look over on the web site I posted above you'll see that you can click on a preset like "Leads" and a sub menu will appear and then you can hear online the different presets. Thats kinda cool.

So far I really like this Synth.

LUNA

http://www.mutools.com/products.html

from the developers website.
LUNA is an alternative, ultra-light virtual music studio, designed to compose & perform music of different styles and flavors

LUNA Free looked promising but its interface to me is very un mac like. What seemed like a promising application is to me bogged down by a Klutzy interface. But it might be worth a look since its FREE!

The REMEDY is a FREE software synthesizer. I just ran thru it in GB and its nice for a free Synth!

REMEMBER to click on the "Stereo" button you'll find on the front of the synth for better sound

Also. At first it is not clear how many presets are available to the user. There are what seem to be categories in neon green with instruments underneath that you can select. However you can also click those green headers and get more presets. Play around with the "ROOT" button to help find them.

ALso there is an "ARP" button to turn the preset into an arp and a "Sync" button to sync the arps to your songs tempo.

Click on the downloads tab.

Gyrovibe. A demo. Here's a description from its website.
vibrato chorus

Gyrovibe is a classic vibrato chorus effect with a wide range of sounds. It's great for keyboards — especially for a cool 60's Hammond sound. It also produces a wide range of rich, full vibrato and chorus effects for guitar.

http://www.musicunfolding.com/gyrovibe.html

Also check out from the same site PhaseDelayArray.

PhaseDelayArray has three effect units chained together in an interesting configuration. And one of these units is just a little bit twisted.

Another offering. Something cool called F8

xEQ is a parametric EQ/Tone Control. and its FREE

http://www.musicunfolding.com/muxeq.html

From the developers website:

xEQ is a straight forward parametric EQ/Tone Control. It consists of Low and High shelf filters and three Peak/Cut filters. It is very useful for placing around distortion effects. Place before as a tone control and after to simulate a speaker cabinet's frequency response curve. There are some example presets in the distribution that are useful starting points for tailoring your tone. The presets starting with TC are tone control curves and those marked with an SC are for speaker cabinet response curves.

Also from the same folks a Distortion DEMO called "hD 1.0

hD is a distortion effect. It can also directly add note harmonics — up to two octaves higher — and it contains a sub-octave generator.

OK Guitar player wanna be like me. CHECK OUT SLAYER 2!!!

http://www.refx.net/?page=!_Slayer2

This is one of the best AU's I have ever come across. I don't buy too many AU's but this is a MUST have. No other AU for GB comes close to a Gutair like this AU.

You have to at least check it out. Careful you may not leave your keyboard for hours.

Use the the Modulation wheel to control the sound and the Pitch Blend wheel to get a strum like feel.

RAYSPACE 2.42

Its a demo with 3D rooms you select as presets or make your own.

Kinda cool because it creates a 3D model for you to see how your reverb is being handled. Don't forget to hit the "3D" button.

Being a demo it makes a noise every noise every now and again, but its cool to play around with.
