Installing Windows 8 on a new iMac from an .iso file

Open Boot Camp and read the directions (on Page 1)

Put the iso on a USB stick or get an external optical drive.

BTW, Windows 8 is not supported by Bootcamp. No Windows 8 drivers. http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1899

but the windows7 drivers works in most cases for windows8

I updated my win7 to win8 and just kept the apple win7 drivers

magic trackpad and all the internal stuff works fine for me

Rudegar, When you first installed 8 you posted here regarding the problems you had, specifically with video. Since then you post as if there are no issues, try to be a little more detailed.

Once more, Win 7 drivers used for Win 8 may or may work, it is an individual issue, claiming that it always works encourages a reckless approach (like working without backup, which I do not see you even mention) does not always help.

yes first I let windows update update my amd video driver and only every 3-4th boot into windows8 would be a success otherwise it would crash and then boot back into osx which is default for me

but searched and found some posts in these forums talking about the amd video card driver being the issue

so I rolled back to the win7 driver and now it's much better

sure I get crashed at bootup every now and again but only at bootup for some reason when it get into win8 without problems it's pretty stable

We have different definitions of what constitutes 'working' For me a failure to start is not working, but YMMV.

Was this a straight install of Win8? Where exactly did you download the iso to, desktop, stick, PC? I'm trying to figure out the mini I just bought.

I'm using parallels desktop with windows 8 on my new iMac and it's awesome to be able to run both Mac and windows

Simultaneously without any partition on the hardrive.

the digital download had a exe file launcher which I ran from inside windows7

it started the proccess up

just had to make sure it didn't boot to osx the times it had to reboot
