i have lots of pictures on my sd card but when connected with the lightning to sd card camera reader my ipad 4 says no pictures to import any thoughts as to why

Q: no pictures to import
The Pictures need to be in a very specific format inside a folder called DCIM just like a camera would have created.
The pictures file names must be 8 characters long plus the extension. e.g. image001.jpg
