FaceTime says i'm not available? My Apple ID was activated...

I've never used FaceTime before. The first time I used it on my MacBook Pro it said on the persons ipad i was contacting that i was "not available for FaceTime"

I didn't download FaceTime, it came already on my dock, my Apple ID has been activated and verified, we were both using WiFi, and I check her contact to make sure it was correct.

The methods I tried to solve this problem were:

turning Firewall off, then using it - DIDNT WORK

Signing out of my Apple ID then back in - DIDNT WORK

If under Services, it says no services apply - is that a worry? Could it be that there are restrictions to FaceTime on my mac?

MacBook Pro, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.2)
