Question: I tried to backup my computer contents, cut coun't because "finder can't compelte the operation because some data in ........JPG (an iphoto image)
can't be read or written (error code -36) What is this error and how can I correct it?

It means that either the source or the destination drive is malfunctioning. Do you have any backups of the data? Can you copy to a different drive?
I am backing up on two different drives...one is on the time machine...the one I am having trouble with is a passport that I back up manually. I have not gotten a notice from the backup on the time machine that there is an error.
Before this error occured....the "event" that the photo was in emptied without me doing anything. This has happened before, when the total number of pictures that I have downloaded for the day, the events emptied overnight without me doing anything (????????)
Can you explain more what is happening.....

It sounds like the Passport drive is malfunctioning. Is there anything on it besides backups?
No, it is a new passport drive. I "trashed" the particular picture and it seems to be working now. What I am concerned about is the pictures deleting from iPhoto. I have just downloaded aperature, but have not had time during Christmas to work with it. Will I have the same problems with it? Getting very frustrated with iPhoto!!!!!
When you say you "trashed" the item, do you mean that you deleted it within iPhoto, or that you opened the iPhoto library in the Finder and moved it to the Trash?
I "Trashed" from iPhoto.
OK. First, you should quit iPhoto before copying the iPhoto library. Time Machine won't back it up while iPhoto is running.
