How do I rename my ipod shuffle?

4th Generation, Brand new, using iTunes 11.0.1.12. Thanks!

Select it in the iTunes sidebar, click on its name, and type a new name.

How do I get the sidebar to show up? I've been playing around with the new iTunes version for 1/2 an hour and can't find how to get the sidebar? Thanks.
