Mac Mini Media Centre LCD TV Recommendations

Hi.
Just about to bite the bullet and get a new Mac Mini Duo and set it up as a living room media centre, with an Eye TV, and would like to see if there is any feedback on the best LCD TV to use for this.

Does anyone have this setup currently working nicely? What TV/s can you recommend. I am looking at no bigger than 32-inch, but open to hear any feedback on good and bad experiences with creating such a setup.

Best resolution to use?
DVI to DVI or DVI to HDMI?
Any tips or other feedback from people who have such a setup would be much appreciated.

Thanks!

My intel Mac Mini will not work on my 42 inch HD Plasm - it comes with an out of range message. I have changed resolution/settings via another monitor and connected back to the plasma and it is still the same.

However, it does work on my 26 inch Dell HD tv and can even set it to 1080i in the settings and it recognises my dell in the monitor settings. So, I can recommend the Dell 26 inch LCD HD TV that I have which also incorporates DVI (which is how I have the mini connected) as well as VGA. The Plasma I have only has VGA and I think this is part of the problem.

More about the Dell here:

I did not pay £1000 for it though, I bought it from Aria when they had them on offer for £465 + VAT - a really good deal and a great system! They have non left now, but there is one here:

checkout other mac mini lcd posts I have had no luck with it getting setup with my revB g4 mini. I do use it for surfing and thats about it. ReswitchX or display configX software was needed to get it to work. Seems mini doesn't like tv's with 1366x768 resolution. Most I have encountered have this. Good luck! Its worth it.

I've been looking at the Samsung LA32M61B 32 inch LCD TV to use in conjunction with a Mac Mini Duo as a Media Centre. The native resolution is 1366x768 so I guess I can expect to do some tweaking to SwitchResX or DisplayConfig X?

Has anyone has any experience (or success!) with this model?

Would love to hear from more users about what LCD TV's they are using for a media centre setup, how hard it was to set-up the resolution, and any extra tid bits on the pros & cons of such a setup!

I'm planning to buy exactly the same TV and do exactly the same thing, adding the EyeTV DTT as well.

From what I've investigated so far, the Samsung TV will not support the Mini connecting via DVI. It will have to be via VGA for higher resolutions (720p, 1080i). From what I've read this is only achievable by using SwitchResX. It may support 576p via s-video natively, having been pointed to this Apple Developer article:

You will have to buy a DVI - Video adaptor

Has anyone has any experience (or success!) with this
model?

I would like to hear too before I purchase!

I created a custom resolution. On the settings for that, I chose "Custom" (rather than scaled), I clicked on the "Use simplified settings: GTF". I used 1366 (horizontal) and 768 (vertical) for the "Active" setting, and 60 Hz for the Vertical Scan rate. All the rest of the fields adjusted themselves.

Disclaimer: I really don't know what any of the settings to, I just got this to work and stopped playing.

For what it's worth I just set up my Mac mini with a Sony SXRD 60inch projection LCD and found that only a DVI to HDMI cable would give a full coverage on this screen. When I used the DVI RGB adapter I only got about 80% coverage. It is currently overscanned a bit but still can find the drop down menues from the top. Try different cables to maximize your computer projection on the LCD screen. Good luck

I have a Mini Duo with a Sony Plasma TV and can't get it to work. The problem seems to be that Application Enhancer (APE) isn't compatible with the Intel Macs, have any of you experienced this problem?

I'm not able to open the APE control panel, it tells me that it isn't compatible with my machine.

Just took delivery of this setup LA32M61B samsung LCD TVwith a mini core duo. its a nice TV well priced and beats to specs of all the other korean and Japense manufactures Iooked at

HDMI <-> DVI cable worked straight away either over scanned or with a framed spare inch all around

I've spent a couple of hours fiddling around with DisplayConfigX and SwitchResX trying to get a working set of setings to do 1366 X 768 without joy yet.

Its a pinful old process. When a try doesn't work the TV goes out of range and I've got to reboot in safe mode. Unlike the other native resolutions the control panel won't revert to the older settings after 15 seconds.

Anyone had any luck with this setup yet? I'd kill for a working set of figures.

Also has anyone got a easier approach or tips on how to apprach this trail and error process of nutting out a set figures for this resolution

I'd really hope apple help sort this sort of thing out pretty soon there have got to be a lot of TVs out there ready to go at this resolution.

Any help appreciated
