Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:

☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)

☞ In the Finder, select Go Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.

☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.

Triple-click anywhere in the line below to select it:

codesign -vv /usr/bin/env

Drag or copy and paste the selected line — do not type it — into the Terminal window.

Post any lines of output that appear below what you entered — the text, please, not a screenshot.

Hi Byron, I don't think Drive Genius has anything to do with the problem.

Where and how did you get the message come up?

Don't worry about Mountain lion right now, this kind of thing can happen in any version.

Let us know if you're not comfortable doing something in Terminal and if you think you feel ok to try, be careful to follow the directions exactly.

I know you like to install all kinds of stuff - what kind of apps did you install lately?

If you feel comfortable working in the Terminal app, then you need to follow Linc's advice - it's very technical, but he knows what he's talking about. But let us know if you don't feel comfortable doing it, ok? It does need to be checked out, so that's why he wants you to do it and then post whatever shows up in the window here. But, it might be too technical, so if that's the case, then let him know - it's ok, not everybody can handle really technical stuff.

Did you hit the Return key after pasting in the command Linc gave you? With some commands, you also have to put in your password, but I don't know if this one would need that or not. So, until Linc comes back, try just hitting the return key and see if you get some text after you do that. If you do, copy it and paste it here.

Try that first and we'll see what it says (Linc can read those, I can't). After that, we'll see if a reinstall would be best or maybe something else might work, ok.
