Cannot import m4v movies to iTunes 11.01

So I just upgraded to itunes 11.01 and I am running into problems importing my movie collection all of the sudden. I usually purchase a hard copy of movies and then rip and encode into m4v or mp4 files for use in itunes with apple tv/ipod/iphone ect. I have been doing this for years with no problems...until I upgraded to itunes 11.01. Itunes has created a new sub folder for home videos that imported movies automatically get placed into. You can then go into the movie file "get info" setting and change the media type from 'home video' to 'movie' and it would then be recognized with all of the other movies I have in my library.

When I go into the itunes music folder in finder and try to move a newly imported movie file from 'home videos' to 'movies', it will not show up in the itunes movie interface, but it will show up on my Apple TV movies as an uncategorized movie. I normally add art work and pick a genra to organize my movie collection. Because it doesn't show up in my itunes interface, I cannot add artwork or organize them anymore. I had no problems before itunes 11.01.

I have read one other post about this problem here but nothing they suggested seem to work for me. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

I'm not certain I understand what you are trying to do. If you are simply moving media files around in Finder, iTunes doesn't keep track of what you are doing without telling it. Are you unable to go to iTunes > Home Videos, Select All, and change the media type via "Get Info" on these files from within the app? Or are you saying that the files do not appear in Home Videos after you add the movies to iTunes from the File Menu?

Both actually. I was unable to get the movie to show up in the itunes interface at all even when I moved the movie in via finder. If the movie dosen't show up in the itunes interface, then I couldn't organize it via 'get info' in itunes.

I did believe that I have figured out what is going on though. In Itunes>Preferences>Store there is an option to keep playback synced between devices. I needed to uncheck that before the movies would show up in the itunes interface. Once that happened, I could go in and change the media type and organize it the way I wanted.
