We also had problems with Whatsapp and an iPhone 3G. We had to verify but failed because of the old version.  But yesterday we noticed that we had two new messages. So we tried to open and had to verify. I remembered we had the SMS we used for the first verify when we started to use Whatsapp. We used this code and guess what?

    It is working again!

Tip: look for the first verificationcode and use that one. It worked for us.

mk040 what do you mean with " we noticed that we had two new messages", i've tried to enter the code sent before, but still doesn't work the same situation

The Whatsapp icon had the number two on the corner. After that we opened the app and filled in the code. After that it worked. Maybe let a friend send you a message. For us it is still working. I don't know for how long.

Does anyone know where it has spontaneously started working again?? UK or Spain for example? If it has started working, is there anything I can do to make mine? Sorry if it's already been covered, long thread!

    I'm living in The Netherlands.

And it has started working again? Means there is hope for me!

I've spent so long trying to sort this out that I've confused myself, but I have 2.8.4 on my phone now and it is telling me to update, is this what other people experienced and then it started working again? Or should I be looking for a different version or doing something else?? Thanks!

as far as I know this is how it works:

You need version 2.8.4 installed on your phone and you must use the same number you used when the app stopped working (no changing sim cards), you also shouldn't have activated your number on another phone because that likely involved a new confirmation code on the other device overwriting your number previously confirmed on the iPhone 3G. for me it started after I fired-up the 2.8.4 version even though on the 2.8.3 I was getting the confirmation code screen or the warning that the app is too old

I didn't update because it is not possible.

    The installed version is 2.8.4.

OK, I've also tried to put the SIM card in my Iphone 3GS and then got a new code.  Interestingly enough the new code requested was a 6 digit code (not 3 digit as in original version).  I got it activated. When I put the SIM card back in the iphone 3G it requested again a 3 digit code and same problem, does not matter what I do (even tried old code) it will either tell me I have to upgrade or that there is an error - old version.

So looks like Watsapp have "upgraded" their security and in doing so only supplied a version that works with IOS 4.3. (most probably because the new dev software does not allow there "upgrade" features to work on 4.2.1).  So it looks to me that it's time to move on.... skype or viper.

    never more apple

  • KiltedTim Level 9 (50,310 points)

Have you bothered reading anything in this thread? This is NOT an Apple issue.

  • Justvw Level 1 (0 points)

You keep telling it's not an Apple issue, and I keep telling that thanks to apple (and whatsapp) we can't use whatsapp anymore.

  • KiltedTim Level 9 (50,310 points)

This is ENTIRELY under the control of whatsapp. Apple has absolutely nothing to do with them deciding to cut off service to old versions of their app or with their decision to pull the old version of the app from the app store.

do you by chance work for apple or whatsapp and can provide us an official confirmation about who's blame it is? if you're not, just let us share our oppinions and blame whoever we want

  • KiltedTim Level 9 (50,310 points)

No one here works for Apple. This is a user to user community.

You're free to blame whoever you want. It won't change reality.
