So here is the issue.  I had a 32GB iPhone 4S.  It was stolen but I have it backed up on my computer.  I could only afford to replace it with a 16GB iPhone 4S.  When I go to restore my new phone from the backup I get the error message that there isnt enough space on my iPhone to restore the backup.  I understand this because my 32GB was almost full but it was mostly music and pictures.  I dont care about all that I just need everything else.  The contacts, texts, saved app info, email.  All the stuff that doesnt take up much space.  Is there any way this can be done?  I wish it would let you just restore a partial backup.  I am overseas and there are no apple stores where I am.  Thanks.

Make a copy of your existing backup & put it in a folder on your desktop for safe keeping. Then get this:

    http://www.icopybot.com/itunes-backup-manager.htm

Edit your existing backup & see if you can then restore such to your new phone. Be careful, one screw-up & you'll render the entire backup unusable...that's why you make a copy first.

    Good luck.

    wjosten:

Useful info, but note: the software is trialware, $30-35, refundable.  I'm considering it.

    MALWARE?

Also, someone on download.com said it came w/malware.  I've contacted the author and am holding off on installing it.  It's a signed app, so I'd be surprised if it's true.
