There are no apps for that. On every purchase page it tells you under Requirements that an iOS device is necessary.

To read ebooks like that on OS X, you need to get them from another source and use the free ereader provided by the source, such as Kindle, Kobo, Nook, or Googlebooks.

Hi Tom,

Thanks for the response.

I was aware of the requirement, but was thinking that there may be a 3rd party app that may work or a new app in development to accomodate the requirement. Seems like after all this time, there should be a way.

I did go to Apple.com/feedback and submitted a request. However, I don't know if they will ever answer me. I wasn't sure if you were with Apple tech support, but am asking the following question in hope that maybe you are. If not, maybe you know the answers.

Doesn't it seem reasonable for one to be able to use the Mac computer to read an ebook purchased through apple iTunes? Are there technical or security issues that preclude this? If not available with OS X 10.7, possibly as an additional capability to Mountain Lion since they are integrating OS X and iOS features more and more. Your thoughts?

Thanks,

LarryEL

These are user to user help forums and none of the participants represent Apple. Apple reads but never responds to feedback. They really don't dialogue with users the way you are perhaps expecting.

I think everyone here believes it would make sense to have an ibooks app for OS X. Nobody knows why Apple has decided not to do that (and to leave this field open to other stores), or has any info on whether they might change their mind in the future.

There have been countless postings about this over the last 2 plus years -- you perhaps did not see them because this is a forum for people who produce ebooks. The forum for people who read them is at
