No sound at all with bluetooth....

Hello

I just bougth a JBL Onbeat Awake speaker in order to get bluetooth audio service with my MBP.

MBP and speaker pair well, the speaker is recognize by the MBP, even indicated "connected". When i launch a music on Itunes or any other "noisy" file, the "bluetooth" light on the speaker is not flashing anymore which indicates that it communicates with the MBP but.... no sound !!!

I have OS x 10.7.5

Of course, i checked that noise was not turned to mute (both on speaker and MBP). All the sound options seem to be fine, even bluetooth options. I tried many times to unpair/re-pair, stil doesn't give any sound.

If i disable the option "use as an audio device" on the bluetooth/Onbeat awake menu, the sound comes from the MBP as usual.

I really do not understand what happens. I have read that there us to be bluetooth audio trouble with OS x 10.7.4 with sound quality decreasing rapidly, but here i have no sound at all !!

The speakers works fine in bluetooth with my iphone, without changing anything on the speaker. So the problem do not come from the speaker. And even if i disable "bluetooth" from my iphone, sounf from MBP still do not work...

Any idea ? I am not a "Mac Professional" so maybe i forgot an easy step...

Thank you very much for your help and answers, and merry christmas !!

Forgot to mention, I have OSX 10.8.2. So it is not a Lion specific problem. I have an MBP 13 mid 2011.

Actually, using a BT dongle under Win7 in Parallels once I succeeded to make the Onbeat Awake sounding, but only once. It means to me (but I may be mistaking) that the issue is a kind of configuration issue, or the built in BT chip and the Onbeat Awake are simply not compatible (and this would make me sad, as I like the device).

I am curious about the solution, so I would also appreciate any ideas.

Cheers, and Happy New Year!

I spent about good three hours at a local BestBuy with an Apple expert and other well-informed reps. No luck. The unit connects and pairs with MBP, communicates but does not play music. I called JBL tech support. They went over basic steps of Bluetooth pairing and eventually blamed it on Apple product. I have MBP 2011. I even updated software to Lion. It works perfectly with IPod, IPhone. I would love to hear a solution. I might buy it again.

I have the same issue.

Just puchased the JBL Onbeat Awake (which sounds excellent I might add when played over bluetooth with both iPhone and iPad).

I have a Macbook Air and everything looks good from a connection standpoint when trying to connect via bluetooth; however as the kind folk above mention - no sound.

Running Lion 10.7.5 - 11 inch mid 2011 macbook air.

Would love a solution as well.

Just for your information. It may attract somebody's attention.

The JBL could pair, connect and successfully communicate (meaning that there was sound and music) with an old XP laptop with built in BT chip. And it was easy. Then we tried to make communication between the Onbeat Awake and a Win7 laptop with no success, as the laptop wanted to install some driver that was not found anywhere.

From what you guys wrote, it seems to me that not only the MBP, but the MBA has the same problem. Does anybody know, if the Onbeat Extreme can BT communicate with these MacBooks? If yes, the issue is JBL specific and not Apple.

It is a very common problem which keeps on occuring in all Mac desktops and laptops so just chill...Firstly pair up the bluetooth speakers and connect them to the sys in bluetooth menu and wait for a while...then immediately open iTunes and play a simple song and wait for a bit more than 30s as the BT device takes a while to get in sync and then slowly the song will start playing and vola your BT device will play!
