trying to transfer Itunes to a new External drive, unable to create new folder on new drive as detailed in Apple instructions, anybody know why.

You need to select the HD from the Finder and they 'Get Info' to check that you have read/write privliges.

thanks Mike, Yep, Sharing and permissions says "You can only read" any way round this.
Yes - at the bottom of the Get Info window under 'Sharing & Permissions' is a box - select the icon of the lock and enter your computer password - then from the box select your user name and from the menus give yourself read & write privileges.

I'm probably missing something but I don't have a box, in that section under Sharing and Permissions it just says - You can only read - no box
Sorry, just had a thought, I am on an imac and the Format of the new Disc says Windows nt file systems, does this mean I have to re-format the disc and If so is there a certain way of performing the format
Reformat.
There is still bad blood between the systems.
Unless you have a utility that will let you R/W NTFS they as noted - reformat to a +HFS file system - aka -
Mac OS Extended (Journaled) - using Disk Utility.
The Mac OS can read/write +HFS and FAT 32 but can only read NTFS.
