I have tried everything uninstalling iTunes then reinstalling it, different USB ports, different leads and its not my iPhone as the problem started with my iPod. Also in my computer there is an exclamation mark next to my iPhone.

If you have not done so, I'd work completely through this kb and report back.😉. I'd also look at iTunes Versions. What model iPod do you have? BTW, there is an iPod forum and you would get more direct iPod related help there...but the steps listed should be done on pretty much any iOS device.

I worked through it and my iphone still will not come up in devices but it now shows up in my computer
So it doesn't show up in iTunes? Are you using the most recent version of iTunes?
Nope and I have checked for updates and it is the current version
and which devices are you using with which iOS versions?

The next-to-the-last thing😉 I can think of is swapping out your cables..the last thing I can think😊of is trying to be detected by iTunes on another computer.....if neither of those work, you might need to have the hardware (I'm thinking USB connector on the device???) checked out at the Apple Store...,
