File Transfer with Looped Powerbook G4

I just received a brand new Macbook Pro for Christmas which is replacing my old 17" Powerbook G4. Unfortunately, the G4 is stuck in a startup loop and I cannot get to my desktop... Is there any way to transfer my photos, files and iTunes files with the G4 in it's current state...? Also, the G4 has the Firewire 400 and USB (I would think either level 1 or 2) ports whereas my new MacBook has USB level 3 ports. Thanks in advance..!

Hello,

First try holding down the option key during start up and then select the HD icon to boot from the hard drive on your PowerBook. If that doesn't work, try booting to safe mode http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1455

If the above fails then your best option is to use the Mac OS X restore disk that came with your PowerBook and boot from them.

You may need to repair HD using the disk utility option on the Mac OS X disk.

Once you have your PowerBook working to the Mac OS X desktop you can create a backup on a USB external drive or a FireWire drive. (personally I would select USB as FireWire differ on the new MacBook and a conversion lead would be required)
