I have not the same but similar problem with Jump by Van Halen.

I've bought it few days ago via iTunes (right from "Buy tones" button from Ringtones settings). It was installed on my iPhone 5 (ios 6.0.2) but after few days it's disappeared and ringtone changed to default. And now I can't download it or find in Settings.

I used iTunes on my Mac after it, and I see it in "Ringtones" folder on iPhone but it's disabled (light grey font).

How can I used purchased ringtone now?

Dear Danu,

Jodi here from the iTunes Store Support team. I understand that your sign the ringtone "Everything" after updating your iPhone. When it comes to your money, I can certainly appreciate how important it is to feel that you are treated fairly, and I would be more than happy to help you out with this today.

Please follow these steps to download the item with your iPhone:

1) On the Home screen, tap iTunes.

2) At the bottom of the iTunes app screen, tap Downloads. (If you don't see a Downloads option, tap More and then tap Downloads.)

3) Enter your password when prompted.

The missing item should begin downloading. If you lose your Internet connection, iPhone will display a message that says it cannot connect to the iTunes Store. Once you reconnect to the Internet, tap iTunes and then Downloads again, and then tap the blue down arrow icon that appears next to the item to resume the download.

If you can't find the item on your iPhone after trying to download, please reply to this email and provide this information:

- The name of the Internet service provider (ISP) or Wi-Fi hotspot

- The type of Internet connection (Wi-Fi or 3G)

- Any troubleshooting steps you may have taken

- Any error messages you may have received

If you have any other questions or concerns regarding this issue please feel free to contact me. Thank you for contacting iTunes Store, Danu. Have a great day!

Sincerely,

Jodi

Ugh... this is very frustrating! I purchased ringtones last week and now they are gone. I went back in today and purchased them again and 30 minutes THEY WERE GONE! I didn't even turn my phone off! I go into the "downloads" and there is nothing there!!

And to make matters worse, when I purchased one of the ringtones I requested it be default my alert tone and it is only showing in my ringtones (for now)... How do I get it to my alert tones?

Try this it worked for me:

Restore your tones from the iTunes Store

If you purchased your tones on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch and never synced them to your computer, you can restore your tones directly to your device from the iTunes Store using the steps below.

If your device already contains previously purchased tones that you synced or restored to your device from iTunes on your Mac or PC, turn off Sync Tones in iTunes before completing the steps below. Otherwise, you might download duplicate tones to your device.

  1. Open Safari on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch.
  2. Go to itunes.com/restore-tones.
  3. Sign in with your Apple ID.
  4. Tap Restore. You'll see a message that reads: "This may take a while. You can continue to use this device while we prepare your tones. You will be sent a push notification when they are ready to download."
  5. Tap Done.
  6. When you receive the notification on your device, tap Download, or, if you receive the notification on your lock screen, swipe to download.* All of your tones will download, including any that are explicit.
  7. Check to make sure that your tones are now on your device:
Ringtones: Tap Settings > Sounds > Ringtone.
Alert tones: Tap Settings > Sounds > Text Tone (or any other alert listed).
If you assigned purchased tones to your contacts, these will also be restored.

If you purchased tones with more than one Apple ID, follow the steps above signing in with each Apple ID at step 3.

You can repeat these steps on your other iOS devices, if needed.

*If you tap cancel on the notification or don't receive it, you can start the download of your tones by force quitting the iTunes Store app and relaunching it.

Make sure you do this directly on your device. I got multiple duplicates but once I synced with the computer all duplicates were gone.

Good Luck
