Q: Why is in iTunes 11 no "iTunes Library.xml" but only "iTunes Music Library.xml"?

With iTunes 10 I had "iTunes Library.xml". Now installed iTunes 11 on a new computer - and there's only "iTunes Music Library.xml". What's the difference?

Can I copy the old "iTunes Library.xml", which contains the library on my NAS to the new computer with iTunes 11 or do I need to convert it to use it under iTunes 11?

If the library folder is in the default location of <User's Music>\iTunes then the xml file is called iTunes Music Library.xml, anywhere else and it is called iTunes Library.xml. Note this file is provided for supporting third party applications. iTunes uses iTunes Library.itl as the main database for your library. The xml file is regenerated every time the itl file is updated.

iTunes automatically updates itl files when opened with a newer version of iTunes. If you are trying to move your library from one system to another the path needs to be exactly the same as on the previous system or the library files need to be in the parent folder of the media folder. E.g. iTunes and iTunes\ iTunes Media respectively.
