How do I update the apps I have that are in need of updating??

My iphone 4 shows I have updates that need to be done, but I can't find a way to update them since downloading the new itunes system. Some updated, but some say I need to connect to a WiFi system, which I have, and they still won't update rendering them useless. I also can't find where to sync my phone to icloud......
