I connected with a Belkin mini display port adaptor I bought from the Apple store. It connects to the thunderbolt port on my laptop to the connector provoded from the projector (not usb connection).
Then my problem was solved by the following discussion post...

FYI... I did this for iOS 10.8 and it worked fine. if you are using the HDMI to mini DVI adapter, you have to do 3 steps....
1) Select the mode button on the top of the HDMI projector (it's the circle) and change the mode to "Standard" by pressing it again. (Usually it starts out in presentation mode whenever you power up the projector.)
2) System preferences on mac... go to "Display", make sure that Mirroring Screen option is selected. Press the "Gather Windows" button, then you want to bring to front the screen it brings up. From that window, press the "appearances" tab. Make sure you select "Mirror Display". That should fix it.
3) System preferences on mac... go to "Sound", select the "Output" tab, and make sure your HDMI is selected.
That should do it!!! Good luck!
