Does logic pro 8 work mountain lion?

I've updated my Mac Xeon with Mountain Lion and now my Logic Pro 8 is giving me a midi conflict error. How can I fix this or does Logic Pro 8 even work Mountain LIon? Can anyone help me?

Logic Pro, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.2)

Logic 8 will not install on ML,

Yes.. my mistake.. I was having a bit of a 'D'oh' moment.....

I should have said... install not work...

A pre-existing Logic 8 installation should continue to work with ML.. However, you might need to update your midi/audio drivers for any external device you use.. to be compatible with ML.

Thanks Pancenter.. for pointing out 'the error of my ways...' 🙂

Yes, as you've mentioned, one of the MIDI drivers is probably out of date.

Logic Pro 9 works perfectly fine with Lion and Mountain Lion for most people...

I have 9.1.8 running on one MMS with 10.7.5 and an iMac and MMS both running 10.8.2 and I have no issues on any of these setups. I also ran Logic with Lion 10.7.x on both my primary test / work rigs without any major issues of note.. for at least 8 months prior to updating them both to ML...

Some people have had problems running Logic with Lion and Mountain Lion.. namely an issue with delays after pressing buttons but they are in the minority...

There is another issue regarding GUI performance and a certain few plugins but that issue and it's effects depends on what sort of plugins you use and how,... Again , for many it doesn't affect them to any serious degree.

While it might seem, from a number of reports here and elsewhere, that there are many people having issues with Logic and Lion or ML, the reality is.. those that have no problems, don't post so you can easily get a distorted view of how many people have such issues.

FWIW.. In my own experience with a Logic client base I provide support for.. the number of people who have had the 'delay/lag' with the interface issue.. in Lion and/or ML.. is less than 5%

I know.. I have both read and taken part in that thread but again....

The majority of peopole who run Logic 9.1.8 and Lion or now Mountain Lion do not have those issues... and because they do not, they don't post in such threads.. so you get a distorted view of the true numbers of people with problems.

Those that do have issues, will naturally post up in such threads... but that doesn't mean they are the majority of users... They are just the 'loudest' and quite rightly so.

I will also say that for me personally, 10.6.8 and Logic 9.1.5/9.1.6 was and still is the most stable platform for Logic of all of the various combinations available... but apart from an annoying issue with the "airplay' dialog box that keeps popping up in 9.1.8 with ML... and the GUI lag affecting a few plugins.. I don't have any major issues with Logic and ML... so I can happily live and work with that setup...

Finally, it's also worth noting that with my own client base.. initially with Lion and then Mountain Lion the number of clients who had problems was much higher.. Probably closer to 20-25% had issues.. but most of those issues were resolved by updates to incompatible drivers/3rd party plugins and so on...

Once those kind of issues were resolved... as I said earlier, the number of my clients who still have major issues running uner Lion or ML with Logic Pro 9 has dropped to less than 5%... and to me, that respresents a minority of all users... like it or not.

Unfortunately, Tascam are not supporting the 1884 any longer. Therefore it seems there will not be updated drivers... for Lion and ML in the future.. so you are stuck with SL.. which is not a bad thing.. until your Apple hardware dies and then you will need to upgrade to ML as newer Apple hardware requires drivers that SL doesn't have... which will mean getting a new Audio interface too.

Don't understand Tascam's reasoning behind this decision not to support newer OSs... but then, this is why I bought Motu gear.. and I have never had an issue with out of date / incompatible drivers (touch wood!)

Finally, repeating in several threads the same inaccurate post.. is not exactly a responsible thing to do... and doesn't actually make it true either 🙂

cdwright72, have you had any success running Logic 8 after updating your midi drivers? I'm considering updating from SL to Lion or ML just for ease of syncing with my new iPhone. But I need to make sure it's not going to affect my Logic 8 operation too badly. I'd love any advice that The Art Of Sound or Pancenter have to offer on this move. I have a good idea of what Wills House Mac Recording would say. LOL!

Hi, Cdwright72.

I've just bought a mac mini and installed logic pro 8.0 using Pacifist, then installed the 8.0.2. update.

So far, everything is working fine, although the aval tool crashed a few times when it was checking my plugins. After about 40 tests during waves Mercury it would crash Logic. I think it something to do with the number of plugins tested or the processor speed on the new mac. [An i7] Perhaps too fast. A restart saw the same thing happen a few times until it got through all of them.

I did notice that some where missing when I started using logic, but found that opening the Audio Units manager and testing the failed ones individually resolved the problem.

I have an RME Fireface 800 and have had no problems with drivers.

Hope this helps,

Regards,

Scorpii

Well, I took the plunge and updated to OSX 10.8.3. So far, no problems with Logic 8 or any of my other programs. With Logic, the M-Audio General Midi Module failed validation but that's inconsequential to be as I don't use M-Audio. And so far it seems that Mountian Lion handles Logic better than Snow Leopard did. And while I'm at it I really like how much longer my battery lasts.

Ok here goes. I have been using an iMac from 2007, has 2 cores, 4GB, and 1 800 firewire bus and 1 400 bus, but they both share the same bus. This will become relevant to this group, let me explain. I own an ongoing Recording Studio, and have many successful clients. I use Logic Studio - Logic Pro 8. I use many UAD Plugins. I now am using too many UAD Plugins for my firewire bus to handle. And of course Logic crashes. I run multiple UAD 2's along with 3 LA 610's. I am running 4 sometimes 5 800 firewire applications daisy chaining. It is now crushing the system. The audio interface is Ensemble running a 400 firewire. TOO MUCH! So I am having Apple build a new i7 quad core iMac Mountain Lion with 2 thunderbolts, 8GB, and a Sonnet interface with an OCTO Pro for the UAD's. this should allow me about 8 800 firewires at the same time with out problem. Here is my problem. I have aboout 300 active projects on Logic Pro 8. I also have a GLYPH 3 TB single TB Hot Swap back up system, also running 800 firewire. I have a complete up to date disk image and complete system backup. I NEED HELP! If Logic Pro 9.1.8 runs smoothly as some of you say with ML, that's great. But will LP 9.1.8 take my LP 8.0.2 files and convert? And , if so how do I do that when ML does not like LP 8.0.2? Confused? So am I.

Does logic pro 8 work mountain lion?
