How do I create a folder structure that I can use as a template in Mail? Organizing project heirarchies to manage structured mail

The issue is using Mail for organized filing of project correspondence. I want to set up a standard template of folders for client projects. That way, all correspondence relating to different aspects of any client project can be filed into the appropriate project and category within the project. Effectively, it's trying to recreate a Project Management hierarchy with folders in Mail.

Does this make sense? My client wants to reproduce a standard hierarchy of folders, with the Parent folder being their Project Docket. I know that using Spotlight would find anything, if used well, but for long-term filing, arranging correspondence into Dockets with category folders makes more sense to my client.

It appears that Apple Mail in Mountain Lion will not let you duplicate a folder & contents. Perhaps there's an Apple Script that could do this?

The solution turns out to be trivially simple.

Create the template folder hierarchy in your "On My Mac" palette in the Mail Viewer window.

Hold the Option key down after clicking the template folder, then option-drag to the IMAP folder you want the new docket heirarchy to live in. Let go, then rename the parent folder.

Problem solved!
