Place your number on the do not call list (http://www.donotcall.gov). Inform the callers that they have called a cellphone. Telemarketing calls to cell phones are illegal in the US.

Contact your carrier to see if they offer call blocking.

You could port your number to Google Voice and use the call filtering and forced caller identification they have.

There is really, unfortunately, no good way to stop telemarketers. The numbers they call from are often spoofed.

In addition, record the available information if you can get them to give it to you - Company, contact information, etc. - and then inform them 1) they are calling a cellular number without authorization, 2) you wish to be removed from the call list.

If they call again, let them know the FTC and your attorney with be very happy to make their acquiantence.

I have an unlimited calling plan, so I'm not above getting them involved in the sales pitch and then putting the phone down and ignoring them.

I'm also fond of letting them have a streak of blue language that would make a sailor blush, in select cases. but that's me, I'm not a nice person sometimes 👿

I have tried ALL the above advice. Nothing works. ( UNLESS YOU PAY! ) Apparently government officials know about this and do nothing. (hey, is that soda over 16oz.).

My carrier is AT&T. For $ 4.99 per month, per line you can hard block up to 30 numbers. The service is called “Smart limits” (yes I know the rule about never purchasing any product with the name “Smart” in it).

Apparently these people are able to make money simply by calling you. You don't need to answer the phone, you don't need to respond, they make money.

Surely Apply has this as an app on their phone. I say this because my Samsung Android has this ability. I can limit incoming phone calls to only numbers in my contact list.

I'm really hoping Apple has this fixed because my youngest daughter wants an iPhone and this will end up being a deal breaker for the iPhone vs. Android for me. The carriers do offer this service, but it's silly to have to pay extra for something that the phone itself can/should do.

Androids have that as an app because the Android operating system allows for a lot of 'tinkering' with the software... and this is the reason that the Android platform is the preferred target for malware. You know, stuff like a virus that can gather your personal data, like bank account numbers, passwords, credit card numbers, etc.

79% of all mobile device malware is written to target the Android platform.

Only 0.7% is written to target the Apple iOS platform.

To me, that's the deal breaker.

But, hey, if you'd rather avoid simply creating a group contact called 'Ignore', and then putting in all the numbers that you want to 'block' in that contact, so you know to just ignore the call when it comes in... that's cool too.
