Is something wrong with my new iPod Shuffle?

Hoping someone has a tip for me. I have a brand new iPod Shuffle - Pretty simple stuff. I loaded 4 podcasts onto the Shuffle (I confirmed that they're on there because the list is available when I press the voiceover button). I want to jump to the 2nd podcast, so I press the >>| button to skip to next track, but it won't go. It just jumps forward a second or two on the same podcast. Is something wrong with my Shuffle? Is it having trouble reading podcasts as different tracks or something? Thanks for any input!
