I'm wondering how likely it would be for Apple to issue a recall like they did for the MBP 2008 versions.

This issue is way more common than it should be, and Apple should really take responsibility for this. They know it's happening, and they shouldn't expect everyone with this issue to pay for a fix out of pocket.

edit:: I called apple about this issue and the technician said that seems to be a known issue, and everyone that's got this problem should post to http://www.apple.com/feedback/. If we can make enough of a stink there, Apple might respond in some way. It's a long shot, but I'm willing to try.

Same problem for me. Unable to boot my computer (Early-2011 MBP 15" with AMD Radeon 6750M graphics).

I bought it 2 years and 3 months ago. A few months ago I noticed some strange wide blue screens at some time (I had to force the Mac to turn off to solve the problem). Then 1 week ago, I was unable to turn it on without disabling the extensions. So I'm pretty sure this is because of this disfunctional Discrete Graphic Card.

Don't forget to express yourself here : http://www.apple.com/feedback/macbookpro

Apple must take this problem in consideration.

Similar issues for me:

Macbrook pro 17" late 2011

Processor 2.4 GHz Intel Core i7

Graphics Intel HD Graphics 3000 384 MB

Originally I started seeing a strange broken image at start up. After a few levels of unsuccessful support i was sent to an approved apple care firm. Apparently, Apple had never seen this issue before. They replaced the logic board at no cost and the issue was resolved. One month later same broken image has re-appeared at start up, laptop has started getting really hot even with light use and the keyboard backlighting has ceased to work. Just re-opened the orginal ticket but glad i purchased the extended apple care. What's my chances of getting them to replace it with a new macbook pro? I splashed out £2700 GBP on this laptop with care etc.
