i'm guessing its the graphics card a amd 6750m as when it swithches to the gpu the screen glitches and freezes, ive tried the apple hardware test and it passed that

then i did a gpu test with a novatech bench test and crashed nearly straight away

it's nearly 2 years old and out of apple warranty but i'm sure under EU law it should be 2 years

Add me to the list. Started about three months ago after about two years of perfect usage. I finally convinced Apple support to replace the logic board. But within a week after replacement the same behavior resurfaced. The Apple "geniuses" all say the same thing: Reinstall everything from a fresh install of Mountain Lion. I am not convinced this is a software problem. I am however, convinced this is a hardware problem. And likely heat-related: I see a tendency of this kind of error when the bottom of the laptop gets hot.

Pain in the ***. And has shaken my confidence in Apple. This is the first Apple product I've owned since the late 1980s that I would describe as a "lemon".

Same problem.

Early 2011 15” 2.3 GHz Core i7 AMD Radeon HD 6750M – screen glitches ( Image Distortion, screen blurring, freeze and shift), boot problem ...

FIXED: reballing GPU ~ 50 EUR and now I’m more vigilant with internal system temperature:

1. Installed FanControl – and change (in more aggressive way) relation of fan speed – sensor temperature.
2. I use laptop with an external monitor – now my lid is always open !!!
3. I use a simple cooling pad
4. I use only occasionally Windows virtual machine (Parallels).

Good luck.

same problem here too - Macbook pro early i7 quad core 2011 17"

GPU was playing up, graphics cards not switching properly, then crashing, rebooting with blue lines and blue screen, random graphics issues like dots all over screen and then finally just not turning on at all past boot with thick lines in blue.

I have extended warranty, however Apple are currently contending / deciding whether a dent that happened a long time prior might have lead up to this! Could this be after such a long time? I feel this is a known issue with these graphics cards and Apple should perhaps recognise this as a "KNOWN ISSUE" with so many people with the same issue.... a premium laptop like mine should last 3 years at least I would have thought? Apple should repair under warranty I would have thought and not try to blame an old dent in the machine!

geeze. just type in AMD 6750 failure into google and see it's not just a few of us.
