My GPU fried last week without any warning sign. Grey screen, impossible to reboot.... I had an important client presentation 2 hours later, and no computer anymore...

Went to an Apple repair center in Brussels and was diagnosed the logic board issue.

The repair cost is above 600 euros (more than $800). This is completely insane, knowing that there is a $310 flat rate in the US!

How can Apple justify this logic?

Looking further fown the road, how can they justify a hefty price premium while providing such a terrible customer care?

Can you imagine the same policy on a car? "Sorry, your 3-year old BMW needs a new engine or you can throw it away and buy a new one."

It's ok to have manufacturing issues. But it's not ok to not deal with them and show no respect whatsoever to your customers.

If Apple continues like this, they'll be eaten for breakfast by their Korean competitors. Rightfully so.

Really dissapointed, it was 2 years back since it was happen to my mbp 2011 15 inch and till now nobody cares from apple regarding our issues, and it will be two years that i will keep my mbp in my storage room if i did not go for re-flow. As of now still working but disabbled discrete gpu, useless mbp for my photography works... Hope apple will have a recall program. Apple should care for this issues....

This is an issue they expected they just didn't expect it to affect so many people. It's kind of like the Sandy Bridge issue when they first came out. Apple was the ONLY manufacturer to release the machine's with the broken Sandy Bridge CPU while everyone else waited until Intel gave the OK that the issue had been fixed. Apple pushed a patch down for it, heh a software patch for a hardware issue is never a fix... it is a patch exactly what it says it is... so you can expect problems down the line because it DID NOT FIX ANYTHING!

Apple is not going to do anything except watch all these forums and delete and modify things people type here. On my profile it has that I have only written 2 or 3 posts, well folks I have written 100's and I have them all but Apple deletes them.

If you want Apple to do something then you are going to have to do more than post to boards it is going to take a large group and in all likelihood a few good attorney's to get any type of results. Even at that it would be drug out in court until the next decade and as long as people keep buying Apple products they do not care.

I have an Early 2011 MBP with high-res screen that has suddenly displayed crazy pixel screen then when restarted froze on gray screen. The computer will not boot from Recovery or from Disk or USB drive. The hard drive seems ok when tethered. Hope Apple can fix this issues with so many users seeing the same problem.

I called Apple the other day. I had already needed the logic board and airport card repaired last year and I was not about to pay $310 again. Having to need 2 repairs since buying this in Sept 2011 is too much for me. When I called, I told them about this and they said they currently do not recognize this is an issue stating that the internet often makes problems sound worse than they are. They clearly do not stand behind the quality of their products anymore.

Since I started getting this problem like 5 wees ago, I decided I needed a tablet since my laptop no longer worked. Moved to Samsung, not regretting it at all after this debacle.

I installed a program to disable my AMD graphic processor. Hope this will help. But it is a shame you buy such a expensive machine and you are not able to use it to its full potential. Btw, apple had to replace my logic board for 3 times under European warranty.

I dropped my early 2011 MBP 17 (i7, 8gb) to Apple for the Logic Board fix. I was 1.5 days out of warranty, with no love. I agreed to the $310 price to repair my laptop only because I use it for a living as a graphic designer. While in talking to the "Genius" which wasn't a genius, I was told maybe I should cut back on my heavy usage on Photoshop and Illustrator. I told this nice gentleman that I purchased the $2900 laptop because I was told that it would be able to handle any design job I wanted to tackle. If I wanted to replace my computer ever 2-3 years I would of bought a Dell. I purchased a premium product with premium parts.

It's like buying a McRib from McDonalds only to be disappointed when you find out it isn't really ribs you’re eating. Not the same analogy, but you get what I mean!

I purchased an Apple refurbished early 2011 antiglare 15" MBP last September 2013.  At the time I wasn't aware of the GPU/logic board issue.  Has anyone who purchased a refurbished model had the issue?  My concern of course is that the problem will happen after the warranty expires.  Investing in Applecare is not something I usually do as the laptop rarely leaves the house and is mostly used on a desk.
