Jul 21, 2014 1:54 PM in response to djanderzby simjak888,By the way, there's another apple forum which talks about the same issue and that has already more than 400 pages of complaints called: 2011 MacBook Pro and Discrete Graphics Card
Join the thread and keep posting, they won't ignore it forever. -

Jul 28, 2014 4:12 PM in response to djanderzby Farazlarik, count me in. I have macbook pro 17" early 2011 model. Turned on the laptop yesterday and stuck at grey screen. Can't get into safe mode, can't go to local or internet recovery mode. Removed AMD drivers via single user mode and got access to the OS. But the colors have all gone dull and system is reeeaaaallllyyyy slugish. Going to genius tomorrow with not much hope. Might go for reballing if they asked me to pay for fixing it. My apple care just got expired 3 months ago

Jul 28, 2014 11:26 PM in response to djanderzby marcelm02,i have the gpu issue on my early 2911 MacBook Pro since last week unexpectedly my computer screen when just the way the photos are, now it doesn't even charge the safe mode without getting crashed. I've chat with the apple support representative but they have no good news for me apart from the screen issue the computer only stays ok for a few minutes then completely frozen.
I'Ve checked on the internet and the logic board cost around 600 no new conditions so I don't know what to expect, I went to ten retail store but that is going to cost me more so I'm thinking about getting a new computer in case this has no simple and cheap solution.
This computer is about 3 years old and I really expected to have for more than that. It's a shame that Apple doesn't reply any of the comments about this issue they definitely should do because as my case the life of the computer is significant shorter then previous models. Does anyone found a a solution that doesn't involve spending great amounts of money?

I think you hit the nail on the head regarding why Apple isn't fixing the 2011 MBP problem. Apple isn't a computer company anymore. It's all about the iGadgets. Apple was a much better company when all they made were computers and their stock was $14 a share (prior to the last two stock splits.) The focus was on making the best computers in the world. I wish for the good ol' days...

Jul 29, 2014 7:05 PM in response to djanderzby whelandw,Sigh, I too am suffering from the MBP 2011 disease (17" display). Have been suffering with the "split screen" display off on on for awhile, but has recently booted with blue screen with vertical lines and gray screen. The Apple logo is sick, too - half filled on one side in gray and the other side with vertical lines. Appointment at the genius bar tomorrow, but I bet it will not be a satisfactory resolution. Woe is me, my apple care expired in early May 2014. So sad....
Mac does boot in single user mode, but I am really not an ASCII command-oriented geek. Debby

Aug 6, 2014 7:46 AM in response to Silbeby nyco75,Hi,
Same pb with MBP 15" early 2011...
I read hundreds of threads, discussions etc...
I think writing emails is useless but they go directly to trash or junk especially when you write to the CEO.
One thing nobody spoke of is social media. I had problem with different provider and I always had a quick answer and the big plus is everybody sees it.
We should all tweet and facebook apple accounts to let them know how unhappy we are and who knows... There is a #mbp2011 already existing
We are all Mac lovers, we spent a lot on these products and this is for a reason. A laptop should run at least 6-7 years and 2 to 3.
there is definitely something wrong here.
