hey

been having problems for the last couple of weeks on lion os and now mountain lion and need some advice

i'm guessing its the graphics card a amd 6750m as when it swithches to the gpu the screen glitches and freezes, ive tried the apple hardware test and it passed that

then i did a gpu test with a novatech bench test and crashed nearly straight away

Photo_2EA9F689-1F20-FA37-5855-A8D1724F2D07.jpg

it's nearly 2 years old and out of apple  warranty but i'm sure under EU law it should be 2 years

whats my options

Just a positive update: I too had a mbp early 2011 go dead, I tried gfxstatus/reformatiing/etc etc

So I decided to get the GPU replaced (not whole logic board!), as that is the only problem...

Was done in 2 days, like-for-like and now running 100% as should.

    Cost = $150

that is cool! please keep us posted if it is lasting.... (sorry my english i am not native)

it is a shame that apple doesn't do THIS repair - the only one that is reasonable - while we still are in apple care (or similar...)

i got my third logigboard running now and installed gfx card status

with this programm i can choose that only the integrated gpu is used

but just now when i chose the integrated card to be used only - my screen went blue!!! shock!

now i am afraid that it's a first sign that these problems with gpu start again..?

then i sent my mac to sleep and after that it went back to normal.... for now....

but it's just no fun anymore to work with such a unreliable machine ;-(

please keep calling apple and complaining because this is just not acceptable!

my macbook 2011 is latest victim of this issue. It just shows apple logo with horizontal lines & after some time it shows blank grey screen indefinetly.

My Applecare plan finished in May 2014 & its out of warranty now

@apple: you should replace faulty logic board at your cost.

Perhaps it would be a better idea to tell Apple?

Just got back from the Apple Genus Bar 09-09-14.  At the counter, the Apple Genus looked up on his iPad mini according to Apple their is no such problem with the 2011 MacBook Pro.  He wouldn't even touch my computer and said apple could take a look at it for $ 310.00 dollars. I told him that there are countless blogs and magazine articles about he issue, his response was that Apple stands behind their product.   My response: I have a problem, but all I see are lips moving and nobody helping. It's a whole different world, when your the one with the problem.

My last statement to him was; it's not the $ 3,000.00 plus dollars I've spend on a MacBook Pro, it's the 25k of friends who I recommended Apple's product to, I worry about them.

I'm not really sure what to tell people about Apple now?  They'll help you out on the little things, but they are ignoring the big issues.  Is this the new Apple?

I'm recording my whole experience, in hopes this will be corrected.

The  same thing  happened to me with my MacBook Pro early 2011.

I Saw some problems with my computer, that continuously switch off automatically and finally I tried to install a new system by erasing the HD.

Unfortunately my Mac died and IT CAN'T LOAD ANY SYSTEM, even though it is preinstalled in another internal or external Hard Drive.

APPLE, PLEASE, I'VE ALWAYS TRUSTED YOU! DO SOMETHING!!!

if you want something changes please WRITE A FEEDBACK IN THIS LINK

    http://www.apple.com/feedback/macbookpro.html

its the only way to  have a free replacement program.

PLEASE ALL PEOPLE HAVE TO DO THAT!!! SAY IT TO FRIENDS!

AS MUCH WE ARE  MORE POSSIBILITIES WE'LL HAVE TO  REACH THE SUFFICIENT NUMBER TO HAVE A REPLACEMENT PROGRAM.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR ATTENTION (sorry for my bad English)

I too am having GPU problems with my 2011 MBP. It started off a couple weeks ago with a screen freak-out and crash. A few days later the same thing- Then it just started happening every time I start it up. Now I cant even start it up with a clear screen. This is obviously a problem that is effecting many 2011 MBP owners. We need a recall here- I have been using apple products for  20 years at this point- over the years I have convinced many people to buy Apple. Apple needs to take responsibility for this problem and fix or replace it.

Well here is the latest. Had the GPU Issue, tried that tried and true methods to keep it going, finally died after a month, even killed the hard drive with repeated restarts. Paid $330 to Apple for the "depot repair." Received it back September 1. As of September 15,  starting around September 12th intermittently,  I am having continued restarts and kernel panics.

    Error message:

    Mon Sep 15 20:21:09 2014

    panic(cpu 0 caller 0xffffff7fa859feaa): "AGC GPU REGISTER RESTORE FAILED : rdar://7254528, VendorID invalid"@/SourceCache/AppleGraphicsControl/AppleGraphicsControl-3.6.22/src/Appl eMuxControl/kext/AGCPowerManagement.cpp:1114

When I agreed to the repair, I spoke at length with the store manager about my concerns that this repair was not holding and owners of these machines were going through multiple logic boards. She said that they would put this in my case file. Well count me among the owners were this issue comes back in less than two weeks after a depot repair and is worsening once again. Off to the Apple Store I shall soon go.. Fourth time in a month!

This isn't even funny now. I was asking for a trade in discount rather than having to go through this again and was offer a $100 education discount on a $2,000 machine- not even covering the sales tax.

The aggravation and travel time just to bring this thing back and forth is mounting...

I see apple are removing my posts directing people to support websites for people with same issues.

Please google 'macbook pro 2011 change' to support us all on this issue.

Make some researchs on Internet guys and you will find others helpful pages and websites about the issue.

I can't understand how Apple still insists in they never heard about Macbook Pro 2011 GPU issues. This thread has 34 pages and more than 500 replies. We have more than 15.000 signatures in change.org requiring Apple a solution. And everyone of us with this useless piece of aluminium at home have reported directly the problem to Apple.

So... will we get a solution?

there is another thread here about the same issue

it is called: "Re: 2011 MacBook Pro and Discrete Graphics Card"

which has 556 pages right now, 8332 replies and 1340452 views!!!

still apple remains ignorant - it is a shame, i think apple is really loosing its reputation here...

Just came from apple service shop ,they asked for $650 to replace the logic board!!! The service guy advised me to buy a new one ,I thanked him and left . This is ridiculous really.

This is ridiculous!!! I can't believe they're not addressing this!....mine is dying and getting worse everyday. I could go out and buy another macbook, but I'm hesitant to do so. If something goes wrong with my new macbook, then there's always the risk that apple won't do anything about it. There used to be something magical about owning a mac over a PC, that doesn't seem to be the case anymore.

Apple isn't what it used to be and it's SAD!

I am the last on the list, it happened a week ago when I was doing streaming, looking for information I found this post and what happened to my mac, using gfxCard could switch to integrated Intel HD graphics 3000 and been working of course the external monitor does not work, I'll see what they say to me in the store but i don't  have warranty,  I feel sad only lasted me two years and a few months.
