Seriously Apple!? I'm extremely mad as well. My wifi has been greyed out since I've updated to iOS 6. To top it up, my warranty was running out at the same time so I bet you will never acknowledge that you screw something up and replace my device. Very very annoying as I rely on the wifi quite a bit when I travel. It's very obvious the problem isn't just some random hardware breaking in the phone as so many people are experiencing the same issue. Either it's hardware and Apple just doesn't to acknowledge and replace the faulty devices, or it's software related and updates are just useless so far. Please fix it... I've been buying Apple only for 10 years now and for the first time since then, I'm starting to think I should look at alternatives :-(

I had same problem....updated to io6.1 and could not connect to wifi with my iPhone 4, however my ipad suffered no problem. After trying almost everything , I called my provider ( virgin media) who I have to say we're very good.

Basically you have to go into your settings on you router ( mine is the old type ..not super hub)

Anyhow .. All I had to do is change the channel number. Mine was on number 1. Now ... We had to go through the channels one at a time as as when we changed the channel the iPad could not connect or the PC, anyhow eventually we put it on the right channel ( channel 3 for me ) and all is now great.

Hope this helps you.

I'm even more irritated now. I just upgrade to iOS 6.1.1 this morning hoping this would finally solve my wifi problem. By the way, I also had crazy battery drainage issues (it now goes from 100% to 0% in like 8 hrs, just being idle in my appartment not even touching it at all).

So... updated... wifi problem not solved, battery problem not solve. And... I can't get access to 3G anymore! I've rebooted multiple times, did a hard reset, resettting the network parameters in settings. I'll try to do a reinstallation of iOS from scratch tonight but I'm not too confident.

Let me just add: this is ridiculous.

I upgraded to 6.1.2, and my wifi worked for about three hours, then shut off again. I went to the Apple store, and they said my wifi antenna was broken, but they wouldn't replace it because it was a third-party screen. But I had the screen replaced last May, and my wifi was working fine until January. So I'm screwed until I'm up for an upgrade in December!

I say the broken antenna thing is very rubbish. I cannot believe that all of a sudden so many people end up with hardware failure related to the antenna, especially since it's coincidental with the software upgrade (since iOS 6).

So, either:

1. There is a firmware problem with the wifi from a particular supplier that was introduced with iOS 6 and it jsut never gets fixed.

2. There is some hardware problem, which again probably affects a particular kind wifi hardware version, and somehow iOS 6 is breaking it. Again that would be software related. We've heard of people having the issue arising on their iPhone 4S and they had the phone for a while, while others had bought it recently.

For #2, let's say that the antenna or wifi chip or whatever is really broken, it used to be that it would still be visible in the settings. I mean, it could be that the wifi would be flaky and unreliable but it appears to me that there is something in iOS since version 6 that flags it and disable it. I'd like to have a wifi that disconnects often but could still be useable rather than none at all!

Question: could anyone confirm that they heard (first hand) of someone with the greyed out wifi downgrading to iOS 5.x and having their wifi working again? If so, the problem definitely seems software related.

Cheers

Hey guys, also had the grey wifi issue. I read the guy who used a hair dryer to heat up the phone specifically at the headphone jack. I powered off and heated the phone up, I then powered back on and got a temperature message at lock screen saying to wait for iPhone to cool down. I did and once cooled i checked my wifi and sure enough it worked. Currently connected to wifi and typing this. Must be a hardware issue
