I have tried the Heating Method/Hairdryer Method and it worked! but every time i play a game that makes the iPhone 4s "work hard" like "Galaxy on Fire 2 HD" and the iphone heats up a little, the Wifi stops working and after a reboot i can no longer switch it ON.

I've used the heating method 3 times now, and it works!

Anyone with the same problem after running a game?

I think u should try this,

Use your phone until the battery drains completely, then charge it to 100% without using it, and when the phone is charged, remove the charger and reset network settings. ( settings>general>reset>reset network settings)

Then the wifi should come up!

didn't work..battery died on it's own due to the battery issues, just grabbed it off the charger at 100% and tried it...nothing still

U can also this : just switch off your iPhone and remove the sim card, now switch it back on and do a network reset(without the sim card).

I have the 4S and never upgraded to iOS7 because of issues. Well now it is Dec 2013 and there was an Internet outage in my area for a few hours a couple days ago. Came back on for everything else in my house but now my iphone wifi is greyed out. Did a network reset and that did nothing. Hairdyryed it for 2 min. Wifi on but constantly searching for any network. Powered phone off and on... Wifi is greeted out again. Great. Definitely not just a problem with the iOS7 upgrade as I don't have it. Warranty expired only last month.

Just about to try the hairdryer fix fingers crossed!! My phones 16 months old out of warranty so no where to go! BIG coincidence how after the update the wifi stopped working "but this was an existing error"!

Heating the device until the alert appeared and then cooling it down did work for me. I hope this lasts...

I found out today how Apple UK are dealing with all the complaints about iPhone 4s wifi failures....they put the price UP to £160 for out of warranty repairs on the 4S! Thanks Apple, thanks a bunch.

Disturbing, but the hair dryer method worked for me today.  I didn't read all 26 pages of replies.  Is there a synopsis on why it works?

After trying all the resetting and  wiping and the freezer trick nothing worked. The freezer almost worked.  I got the switch back but my 4s couldn't find any networks.

Ten  minutes ago I found this on another board and it worked the first time  for me: While the phone is on, take out the sim. Do the reboot (hold  down the home and the top button til the screen goes black and then the  aoole appears). Let it boot all the way then insert the sim.

Wifi came on for me. It asked for my password and accepted it. Hope this helps some of you.

I tried the freezer treatment a few times but it only brought back Wifi for a while.

So I went fo the hairdrier treatment - took off the rear cover, took off the EM shield (kept the screws in order - important), took the rubber cover off the wifi chip and laid a carboard template over the chip (to protect the rest of the phone) and gave it a good heat up.  So far so good, I'll report back in a day or two.

Update: Lost wi-fi after 2 days. Based on all I've read recently on the matter it doesn't seem fair. Maybe Apple feels like by ignoring this problem it doesn't exist. Come on Apple. Step up and replace these phones that lost wi-fi with refurbished at least.
