Question: What is the max RAM for my macbook pro 7,1?

I just saw at OWC that I now can put in this macbook pro up to 16GB as long as I am running 10.7 or higher which I am...Crucial on the other hand says 8GB is it....which is it?

MacBook Pro, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.2)

Are you certain about that. I looked at the OWC website and saw nothing to that affect. It may very well be that I missed it. Would you please post an image of where that claim is made. It is information that may be useful for other 2010 MBP owners (including my self).

Can you see the image above your post? Sometimes they do not display correctly, or there may be a lag in ASC.

In case you cannot, it is a screenshot from OWC indicating 16 GB but with the caveat it is for the 2.4 GHz MacBook7,1 only.

Thank you for posting the link. I did miss that when I went to the OWC website.

John Galt, greetings; Sorry, I overlooked your links. Simply a case of inattentiveness.

What I find curious is that only the 13" MBP with 2.4 and 2.66 CPUs are compatible and no mention is made of the 15" and 17" MBPs. I happen to have a 2010 17" MBP with a 2.66 CPU. Obviously there must be other differences involved here.

I think this will warrant a call to the OWC technical department to satisfy my curiosity. I have no compulsion to increase the RAM on that unit (I have 16 GB in the 2011 MBP) but it looks that an amendment will have to be made in Mactracker.

Regards.

steve359, greetings: According to the OWC tech department, Apple released a firmware update the allowed for the models listed on the website and those using the Lion OS's to use 16 GB RAM. Thus my 2010 17" MBP is relegated to its current 8 GB RAM even if I abandoned Snow Leopard for Lion.

I got a reply from OWC that thier blog was an answer to our questions...I do not agree....especially those that have the 15" and 17" tho I have the 13" and will most definitely get maxed out!
