Check item 5 under "How to copy files using file sharing" in the HT4094 article you attached.
Do you have any of those applications on your iPad? I would guess you do not.
... Item 4 applies as well.
Your right I do not have any of those apps on my iPad.
When I am in iTunes and click on any app there is no file sharing option available.
I guess I am just frustrated that the iPad is nothing like my Macs.
Right, the iPad is not really a file-based system that expects folders and subfolders like a computer does.
Thanks sberman and diavonex for your help.
I now realise that I have to have to have an app that allows file transfers.
I have just installed GoodReader PDF and this provides me with a documents folder on the ipad.
Great.
