Unable to install Windows7 from ISO file

Hello,

i've read for hours about this but still i can't figure out how to make it work. I've an original ISO of Windows 7

and using the Bootcamp version of Mountain Lion. I follow the instruction but there is not way to let

bootcamp seeing the iso. I placed the iso in a usb drive, ran bootcamp, it download the windows support

but then is asking for the disc of windows... But i need to install it from usb. Any help? Should

i rename the iso or doing something else? thanks...

If your Mac came with an optical drive you should install Windows from that drive.

Did you buy a Windows ISO, and which version is it.

I've removed the optical drive from my old mbp. The windows ISO is the professional 64bit but even the burning tools from microsoft is unable from another windows machine to burn it into a usb key... No idea.

You can not install from a USB drive to a Mac that came with an Optical, it really is that simple. Put the optical back in.

Why? Is that a limitation of the firmware? Because boot camp talk about burning on dvd or saving to an external drive! :\

I don't understand what you tried already. You should be able to create a USB bootable Win7 installer using Bootcamp Assistant. Is this how you created your USB disk, or did you just copy the ISO file to the USB drive?

I've created the usb disc exactly with boot camp but after it download the windows support it ask me for the windows disc. The image is in the same usb drive, formatted with fat32.

You need to move the image to your desktop. You cannot create the USB disk using an image stored on the USB disk.

I know sometimes may sound stupid and lazy to ask something that as been asked million times but as there are just few steps to do, and every combination of it doesn't work, i wanted to try ask anyway. I think i've tried a few different ways to solve this and no one worked. Sorry, no offence.

Originally in my first step, the iso image was on another drive and not on the destination one. Must be just on desktop?

In Bootcamp Assistant when you click "Choose" box to right of the "ISO image:" box, can you find the ISO file?

Does the ISO file really have the an ".iso" extension?

The iso have a real .iso extension but i don't get so far. After bootcamp ask me for partitioning the disk, it doesn't find the windows disc and ask me to insert it. It doesn't allow me to choose a source where to pick up the .iso file.

None taken, but ths will be much easier if you replace the optical (you'll almost certainly have to remove a drive in order to install Windows however you do it.)

Did you read the comments of the people who tried that method, more than half report that it failed. Have you tried it yourself (Terms of Use)
