iPhone 4s getting warm while charging?

I bought my 4s new in July and lately it's been warmer than usual while charging and sometimes freezes for a second or two while I'm using it off charge. I rarely turn it off, could that be the cause? It has no water damage and is always in my soft/rubber shell case.

It would not hurt to reset it once in a while. Simultaneously press and hold both the Sleep / Wake and Home buttons until you get the "slide to turn off" prompt. Turn it off.

This will not affect your battery. As they age, they become warmer as you recharge them. This is normal. All batteries will require replacement eventually, but with proper care you should enjoy at least three or four years of life before they will no longer hold sufficient charge for acceptable use. Apple replaces iPhone batteries for $79 or so.
