How to put movies into a DVD with chapters

I am using FCPX, Compressor 4 and iDVD

I have edited a concert around 120mins (about 16 songs), but I don't know how to burn it into a DVD with Chapters.

Does iDVD support Chapters?

In some of my previous projects, I outputed 1 full sequence of the concert (120 mins) and all the songs individually and put all the files into the DVD by iDVD?

But I doubt if it is the right way. Can anyone offer me any advice?

Thank you very much!

I will try to add Chapter Markers in FCPX (Mark->Add Marker, am I right?)

Yes. Chapter Markers are orange coloured in the Timeline.

So, in this case, I don't even need to use Compressor, do I?

No, iDVD will do the necessary compressing.

But could you teach me how to do it in iDVD.

That's what the Help manual does, so spend a little time reading. 🙂

In short, export the Project as mentioned, open iDVD and drag the exported file to iDVD

Do not drop the file in a Drop Zone of iDVD but into a blank area.

Also make sure that the Chapter Markers option in iDVD is set to accept Chapter Markers.

This tutorial should get you started.

Final Cut Pro X 10.0.6 and later can burn DVDs with chapters.

As well as choosing the position of a chapter start, chapter markers can also have a slightly offset value for what frame to use as an image. This is useful if your chapters start with a fade up from black. In this case you can make the thumbnail for the chapter marker a frame a short time later after the chapter starts once the fade up from black has finished.

For more info on chapter markers, check out the help system:

There isn't much template flexibility ('Black' or 'White') when burning DVDs, but you can choose a PNG from your computer to be used as he background to your title and chapters menu.

For more information, check out the help system on creating a new Share destination (DVD in this case)

In FCPX:

I have added markers in my movie

I can see those orange markers on my timeline

I output it as a Master File, ProRes LT

In iDVD

I create a project in iDVD 7.1.2

Click 'Add Movie' and select the movie I output in FCPX

but I can't see any submenu

I preview the project in iDVD, and don't see the Chapter in effect.

I have gone through the tutorial, but don't know how to do

Can anyone teach me how to do? Thanks!!!!

In iDVD open the Preferences >Movies.

This is where you tell iDVD how to handle chapter markers.

I use Always Ask.

With this selected when you add a Movie such as an FCP X Master Fie that contains Chapter Markers a small window appears asking if you want the Chapter Markers added.

Its as simple as yes or no.

I suggest you open your master file in Quicktime Player to check if the chapter markers are there.

Go to View->Show Chapters (or press Cmd-R). If there are chapters you should be able to see them.

I tried a small example and iDVD did ask me if I wanted chapters.

If the chapters were not exported, make sure you checked the box "Include chapter markers" in the settings menu when you share.
