Battery First Use?
Do I have to run my battery nearly dead on its first use?

No. If you want it is OK, but will make no difference in the function or life of the battery. Charge the iPhone when it is convenient for you. If the battery is low, charge it. Most users charge their iPhone when they sleep, so it is fully charged ready for the day. It is recommended that you discharge it all the way, and then fully charge it, every once in awhile, maybe once a month, if you want to do this now or in a month or two, do it when you want.
