I just got a new computer and transferred all my music but I can't transfer my iTunes playlists. I have my iTunes library files from my old computer (both .itl and .xml) and I've read about a dozen posts on how to do this--seems that they don't apply to the most recent version of iTunes, though. In the new iTunes, there's no "import playlist" option, and opening the files in itunes and/or adding them to the library also doesn't work--none of the playlists transfer.

Click on the Menu icon in the top left corner of the iTunes windown then click on "Show Menu Bar" on simply press Ctrl + B

Then you will have File / Library / Import Playlist

You need to simply copy the entire /Music/iTunes/ folder from old computer to /Music on new computer then open iTunes.

Hi, I have a similar problem but instead of getting a new computer - iTunes crashed on my Mac and i lost all of the information.
I had no xml file, so all I had to to do iTunes was to 'import playlist'. However that didn't restore my existing playlists which I really want back.
Those playlists exist on my iPhone, but I don't want to loose them when I sync to my New Library

Is there a way to recover my playlist information?

I know this was asked a long time ago but I'll answer it now for future reference.

If you plug in your iPod to your computer it will not automatically erase and sync, and you can look at the information, including playlists, stored on the iPod. Simply export them from the iPod and then re-import them to iTunes. Works like a charm.

Better yet, make regular backups of your hard drive.
