I just ordered a new iMac. This will be my first Apple computer. I currently have an HP Deskjet 895 connected to my PC. Do I just download the latest driver from HP for the Mac to run the printer on the new iMac?

Probably you only will have to connect your printer to your Mac via USB and everything else will work automatically. No need to download any driver.

My Canon printer was plugged in via USB, and I performed SoftwareUpdate (Apple Menu > Software Update). Apple already had the required drivers in its central vault.
I can only speak of UK experience but HP have proved good, if a little tardy in providing drivers for Apple. You may find it more practical to contact HP support and talk to them. Many drivers, where required, can be downloaded from their site.
