This utility will export the contacts as cooma-separated values, which you can open in Excel or Numbers.

Hello ashleyrey, this app might be helpful: http://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/9312/address-book-exporter

sounded great Don Timo, but the link then kept getting me into a loop to sponsored sites every time I pressed download. I joined macupdate, but no joy.
I have purchased this little Ap and managed to export data from Contacts, but presently struggling with format etc to import into Excel. I'll keep at it and let you know.............!
Did you buy this app?: https://itunes.apple.com/en/app/adressbuch-exportieren/id402323447?mt=12

Where did the other one come from?
Oh, it was the one from Matt's reply. The one in the app store I have found just now.
Sorry, getting into a muddle here netween you two gents. Please Excuse!!
No, I followed the link you gave me first which took me to a page offering a free downlaod of the address book exporter and then got into the loop.
I might try your latest suggestion when I return in a couple of hours
Okay, maybe you can find the first app I mentioned (Address book exporter) also on another download site.

I have now managed to sort out the problems with the first piece of software advised by Matt. Thanks for your assistance - much appreciated 😕
Matt- sorted thanks for your help
🙂
Using AB2CSV, I exported a group from Address Book to CSV format, then imported into Excel. This 99 cent app did the trick in a jiffy. By the way, there is another method I discovered while browsing Apple Support. Open iWork Numbers and drag a group directly from Address Book to a blank spreadsheet window. The problem, though, is that you only get four fields (last name, first name, phone and email) transferred unless you first set up a header row in the spreadsheet with the names of the extra fields you want. AB2CSV is faster and less complicated – it transfers all fields.
