sync individual songs to shuffle

have upgraded to itunes 11.0 and am now confused on how to sync individual songs to my shuffle (i used to simply drag songs to the device listed on the left hand side).

iPod shuffle (2nd generation, Late 2007), Mac OS X (10.6.8)
