Each time I start up my Mac 10.5 I get "Safe Boot" in red. How do I get rid of this? Restart doesn't do it.

Every time I start up my iMac I get a red "Safe Boot" above my name. I cannot get rid of it by rebooting. I also have no sound or the ability to shut down. Help

iMac, Mac OS X (10.5.8)

To startup in Safe Boot mode, you depress the Shift key at startup. Are you depressing the Shift key?

It doesn't hurt anything to boot into Safe mode. Actually it will fix some problems. See What is Safe Boot, Safe Mode? (Mac OS X)

http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=107392 May take a while to run, but it usually "fixes" problems.

 Cheers, Tom 😉
