Where does iTunes 11 keep the backup of my iPhone 5?

I know it used to be here:

~/Library/Application Support/MobileSync/Backup

bust since I've upgraded, where is the new location?

iTunes places the backup files in the following places:

  • Mac: ~/Library/Application Support/MobileSync/Backup/
  • Windows XP: \Documents and Settings\(username)\Application Data\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup\
Note: To quickly access the Application Data folder, click Start, and choose Run. Type %appdata% and clickOK.
  • Windows Vista and Windows 7: \Users\(username)\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup\
Note: To quickly access the AppData folder, click Start. In the search bar, type %appdata% and press theReturn key.

If you have checked iCloud in the automatically Back Up section then these won't apply

Just in case anyone from Apple reads these discussions - this is the worst location on a computer for a backup now days. Most of us have SSDs and do not want 10G+ backup files multiplied by the number of iDevices wasting away on an SSD versus being in a configurable location.

I am going to move the backup folders off to a HDD location and then move them back when I need to restore. Hopefully that works. Necessary hack to a less than well thought out software.

I believe the option key trick only works if you have Lion or more recent operating systems. For Snow Leopard it doesn't seem to work.

Some people keep repeating the same answer, not explaining that you need to go to Users/[Your user name]/Library/Application Support/MobileSync/Backup for the Library that applies to the individual user, as opposed to every user on the computer. I hope that helps clear things up.

Correct. In Snow Leopard, the User library is not hidden nor is it in the Go menu.

It has been noted a few times in this that you need to go to your username folder

Unless you follow the instructions given three (3) times previously in this thread.

I couldn't agree more. Surely it would be simple to make it easily configurable? A bit like the 'advanced' preference setting for ITunes Media folder location, which enables it to be relocated or even on a shared drive!

Following your instructions, I've located all the back-up files on my PC but all the files names are very long jumbles of letters/numbers, which I'm unable to open. I'm not great with Apple stuff - all I'm trying to do is move all the photos on my iPhone to my PC to clear space on my phone but I need to know where the photos have gone and to be able to view them before I delete them from my phone! Help please?!
