change desktop background for mountain lion 10.8.2

I can't change the wallpaper from default galaxy running mountain lion OS 10.8.2. If I change the desktop background it reverts to galaxy as soon as I restart my computer. I have reinstalled latest version of mountain lion and no fix. Any suggestions?

MacBook Pro, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.2)

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities

Open Finder, select Go > Go to Folder, type ~/Library/Preferences, delete com.apple.desktop.plist and reboot. Finally, change the background on System Preferences > Desktop and Screensaver
