You cannot select to backup to multiple drives with Lion's version of Time Machine. You would have to Upgrade to Mountain Lion for that feature.

I did read on a Google search that mountain lion was the way to do multiple backups but with lion it was possible, but complicated. They did not say how to do it!
Perhaps you are thinking of a RAID setup that uses multiple disks with duplicate data for backups. This is meant in situations where data security needs are high and that a HDD failure would result in irreparable loss, usually financial. For general use it is not necessary. Time Machine coupled with a bootable clone will do nicely.
