Why can you not reconnect a device in iTunes 11 without having to reconnect the physical device. This makes no sense to me!

I don't understand why there is not a way in iTunes 11, why you cannot reconnect to a device without having to unplug and reconnect the physical device. Why is there not a S/W management method to reconnect a device that is already connected? Am I missing something?
