iphone 3gs jammed

My wife's Iphone 3gs is jammed. This is after ios6 update which restored her deleted calendar entries. I tried to restore to a later backup date but it wouldn't restart. Finally it did restart by itself when connected to pc. But now its jammed. Is this phone too old and does it have too much data stored in it? any clues please??
