Apple Event: May 7th at 7 am PT

Unable to delete C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple

I have windows 7 and I removed iTunes and related components from the control panel but the Apple folder under C:\Program Files\Common Files is still there. I tried deleting it but I always receive an error saying “Folder In Use.” I have looked through task manager and it’s not - what am I missing?

For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.

The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. See the notes below the box for stubborn folders. When reinstalling right click on the downloaded setup file and use run as administrator.

Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down the page in case one of them applies.

The further information area has direct links to the current and recent builds in case you have problems downloading, or want to revert to an older version if the current one won't work properly for you at the moment.

Your library and device backups should be unaffected by these steps but there are links to backup and recovery advice should it be needed.

I have the same problem and it looks like others do too. I have spent far too much time trying to find a solution but nothing has worked so far.

Does "end windows explorer for the processing menu" mean to end explorer.exe in the processes window in Windows Task Manager? Does "start new task" means File-New Task in Windows Task Manager? If so, the solution does not work for me.

Any other suggestions would be deeply appreciated.

Thank you.
