I got locked out from my iPad mini during setup, keep ask me for passcode but I didn't set one up. Reboot unsuccessful, iTune won't let me connect because I didn't enter my passcode. How to fix this?

It includes :

Tunes will download software for your device. If it takes more than 15 minutes, your device will exit recovery mode and you'll need to repeat steps 2 and 3.

Still no success. My laptop says it's downloading the software for the iPad Pro and will restore when download is complete but it does. I wait and wait then it disconnects and says it couldn't connect because I need a passcode first

You are repeating those two steps whilst it's downloading/finished downloading the update ? If you have a slow network and repeating those two steps aren't working nearby that you could try going to (if there is, make a Genius Bar appointment) ?

Just awhile ago I tried doing steps 1-4. The same error message appeared - "unknown error"

I noticed the software download wasn't finished yet so what I did was to let the software download finish

and when the download was complete, I tried re-doing steps 1-4, this time around the update and restore

pushed through and was successful. I guess it's accurate that if the download isn't completed in 15mins., then the connection times out and it exits the recovery mode. Thanks.

I would plug it into the computer and reset it to factory settings. This will reset everything on your iPad and erase all the data. If it locked you out diuring setup it shouldn't be too much of a problem, however.

Try and force your iPad into Recovery Mode

1. Disconnect the USB cable from the device, but leave the other end of the cable connected to your computer's USB port.

2. Turn off the device: Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the red slider appears, then slide the slider. Wait for the device to turn off.

3.While pressing and holding the Home button, reconnect the USB cable to the device. The device should turn on.

4. Continue holding the Home button until you see the "Connect to iTunes" screen. When this screen appears, release the Home button. iTunes should alert you that it has detected a device in recovery mode. Click OK, and then click Restore to restore the device.

Note: Data will be lost.

It'll not ask for passcode if you follow my above steps closely.
